Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, why it is used, and the limited circumstances in which another party may receive it. By using Clay County Criminal History, you acknowledge the practices stated below.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. Clay County Criminal History does not retain or record those search terms on its own systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

We retain an email or other contact message as needed to answer it. The communication remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.

Data We Gather Automatically

When a visitor loads a page, the servers automatically receive basic technical and usage details:

  • Page-view dates and times
  • The referring website, when one is reported
  • Pages viewed and the time spent on them
  • Device category and operating system
  • Browser name and version
  • The device's assigned IP address

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help show aggregate patterns, such as heavily visited pages and common exit points. Analytics providers assist with compiling that traffic information. A browser can reject cookies through its settings, although doing so may change how some features function.

What We Do With This Data

  • Routing a search request to the applicable partner service
  • Maintaining site availability and page speed
  • Diagnosing faults and correcting technical problems
  • Understanding which resources are useful and which need improvement
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Clay County Criminal History neither maintains nor sells a database of personal criminal records. It provides general directions to records held by the Clay County Sheriff, Clay County and District Courts, the Nebraska State Patrol Criminal Identification Division, and the Nebraska State Sex Offender Registry. This resource is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not compiled into consumer reports or third-party criminal-history files.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information submitted there is governed by the provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider controls its own retention and disclosure practices. Visitors should review those terms before running a search.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to the Clay County Sheriff, Nebraska courts, state agencies, legal-aid resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows such a link, the destination's policy applies. Review it before providing personal information.

Some advertising providers may use activity across websites to select ads. That processing occurs within the provider's systems, not ours.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal information is not sold. It may be disclosed to the following limited recipients:

  • Analytics providers that measure use and performance
  • Advertising networks serving material on the pages
  • Search providers processing a query submitted to their tool
  • Government or law-enforcement authorities acting under a valid legal order

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable, commonly used safeguards protect the information collected. No internet system can be guaranteed secure, however, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.

Users Under 18

This resource is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor submitted such information, we will delete it promptly.

Your Data Rights

Nebraska Public Records Law, including Neb. Rev. Stat. §84-712, governs access to records held by Nebraska public bodies. Criminal-history dissemination is separately limited by §29-3520 and §29-3523. Those laws do not create a general privacy right in visitor data held by this private resource. Subject to applicable law and our ability to verify a request, visitors may ask to:

  • Opt out of processing where an available choice applies
  • Request deletion of personal information we control
  • Seek correction of inaccurate personal information
  • Request a copy of personal information kept about them

Updates to This Policy

This policy may be revised. Any new version will be posted here and identified by an updated effective date, so visitors can review the current handling practices.

Effective date: July 31, 2026
